Learn About Different Types of Renewable Energies
May 2, 2016
There are five main types of renewable energies: solar power, wind energy, hydropower, biomass and geothermal. Their common characteristic is not to produce emissions (or little), and thus, help fight against the greenhouse effect.
The photovoltaic or solar thermal
The sunlight produces solar energy. We distinguish photovoltaic energy which is obtained directly from the radiation, solar thermal power that uses the heat from the radiation.
The air initially wind energy
The ancestors of the windmills are windmills. Wind turbines produce energy, electricity for example, from the movement of air masses.
Hydropower thanks to ocean currents
Hydropower is obtained directly by water, either from tides and ocean currents, waves, the encounter of freshwater and saltwater. The ocean thermal energy, which comes from the temperature difference between deep water and surface water is also used.
The energy biomass from organic matter
Energy Biomass includes wood, biofuels (derived from plants such as rapeseed or sugar beet) or biogas. This energy is produced by burning or metabolization of organic material.
Draw energy from the ground, geothermal
Geothermal energy is a renewable energy from the extraction of the energy contained in the soil. It can be used for heating, but also for the production of electricity. This is one of the only power not dependent on atmospheric conditions.
